LSU SPHERE Scholarships for Medical Students

LSU SPHERE SCHOLARSHIPS

LSU SPHERE Scholarships address the scarcity of scholarships for medical students in the United States. Only 10% of medical students receive financial aid, contrasting with 50% in other fields. ScholarshipsSpheres provides personalized scholarships for medical students based on academic performance and community involvement. The Louisiana State University Health-New Orleans Scholarships for Public Health Education, outReach, and Equity (LSU SPHERE) actively support diverse and underrepresented students pursuing careers in public health.

LSU SPHERE provides financial support to students enrolled in public health degree programs at the university.

PURPOSE of The LSU SPHERE Scholarships

The program aims to cultivate public health graduates with expertise in epidemiology, biostatistics, and health policy. It aims to equip them to tackle public health crises like COVID-19. Eliminating student loans allows new public health professionals to focus entirely on their careers in the field.

BENEFITS of The LSU SPHERE Scholarships

Through the SPHERE program, the LSU School of Public Health will provide full-tuition scholarships for selected applicants. The SPHERE Scholarship Selection Committee (SSSC) comprises the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and one representative from each of the six programs. These members are selected based on their expertise in public health. Together, they meticulously evaluate applications for the scholarship.

The scholarship distribution will commence in spring 2023, featuring 10 initial awards. Additionally, we will allocate additional scholarships based on academic performance and active participation in the program. This process will continue until we reach the funding limit, ensuring ongoing support for deserving candidates.

Who qualifies for a SPHERE Scholarship?

Applicants for the LSU SPHERE Scholarships must maintain certain academic standing. They equally must demonstrate a commitment to pursuing a career in public health. Additionally, applicants must first fulfill the admission requirements. The admissions committee evaluates and accepts applicants for public health programs based on their academic credentials, work experience, and service experience. Admission to these programs is competitive. Diversity is a priority in admissions, and the committee strives to select suitable applicants from diverse backgrounds. So it is wise to adequately set your admission apart from the pool of applicants.
