Responsibilities Under the IMF Economist Program

As an economist at the IMF, you’ll work with experienced professionals to address critical global economic issues. Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the IMF Economist Program 2025, you must meet the following criteria:

  • A recent PhD graduate or within one year of completing your PhD in a relevant field, such as macroeconomics, finance, public finance, monetary economics, international economics, or econometrics.
  • A citizen of an IMF member country.
  • Under the age of 34 when you start the program.
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and IT skills.
  • Willingness to travel, typically involving one to two missions per 18-month assignment.
