Funded with an initial 35 million yuan (approximately USD 5 million) from the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, the scholarship offers awards of up to 40,000 yuan (approx. USD 5,700) per recipient.

Hubei Province is renowned for its strong educational and research infrastructure, hosting over 120 higher education institutions. These include top-ranked universities such as Wuhan University and Huazhong University of Science and Technology, along with 7 key universities under China’s prestigious National 211 Project. As of 2010, Hubei had over 1.4 million undergraduate and 103,000 postgraduate students enrolled in higher education institutions.
